The Wind Energy Technologies Office (WETO) operates within the Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE). WETO’s mission is to lead the nation’s efforts to research and develop innovative technologies, lower the costs and accelerate the development of wind power.
WETO is issuing a Request for Information (RFI) to gain public input regarding the key challenges associated with the manufacturing and deployment of larger next-generation blades for land-based wind turbines. Information sought under this RFI is intended to assist WETO in analyzing the costs and benefits of various pathways to achieve larger wind turbine blades, which are currently constrained by transportation logistics over existing road and rail infrastructure. Potential pathways include onsite blade manufacturing or assembly, transportation and logistics innovations, and hybrid approaches. The RFI further solicits input on specific areas where further federal research and development would best be applied to have a high impact on enabling supersized blades for the next generation of cost-competitive wind energy.
Please review the complete RFI, which can be accessed under the "Documents" heading below.
Responses to this RFI must be submitted electronically to WindEnergyRFI@ee.doe.gov no later than 5:00pm (ET) on June 11, 2018.
This is solely a Request for Information and NOT a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA). EERE is not accepting applications and will not respond to questions.
