| Material recycling, converting, advanced manufacturing | Hello! I'm interested in collaborative R&D to develop new methods for recycling decommissioned panel aluminum and other materials directly into things like extruded profiles, tubes, brackets and other parts for new panel manufacturing and system installaiton. I've identified a licensible technology developed by a US National Lab that's demonstrated significantly lower energy use, carbon emissions, costs and time requirements compared with traditional foundry based aluminum, polymer & composite reprocessing. I'd like to demonstrate its viability in a series of production applications to assess the cost benefit for recyclers to employ it in a circular economy. I'd also like to explore the potential value of this technology in supporting the DOE's recently announced $450M PV initiative to develop sustainable solar infrastructure in Puerto Rico, where it could help address additional recycling infrastructure needs including the islands ability to support recovery of PV capacity after a hurricane or other natural disaster. My background is in statups, material size reduction, applications development and facility commissioning for the Additive Manufacturing industry. |

A SunPower Elite dealer, Renova Energy Corporation is the largest privately held corporation in the Coachella Valley as well as the largest full-service solar and battery power company, having installed more than 10,000 solar systems and microgrids since its inception.
Renova Energy also encompasses two additional divisions - RenovaPLUS, which provides cleaning and maintenance for any type of solar system installed by any company, and RenovaROOFS, which handles roofing needs in conjunction with solar system installation.
Renova Energy was the first company in the country to be accredited by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) in 2012 and is one of only 11 in the United States. Among other honors, Renova Energy has been: • SunPower’s National Residential Dealer of the Year • SunPower’s National Residential Top Producer of the Year • Winner of the National Commercial Intelegant Award by SunPower • Included in Inc. Magazine’s 500/5000 List of Fastest Growing Privately Held Companies three years in a row Completely self-financed throughout its growth, in 2022 SunPower Corporation (SPWR), a 1.9 billion American solar industry products and services company, invested in Renova specifically to expand the Renova brand into new markets.
Renova participates in many workforce development programs including internships for qualified economic development agency clients and workforce development programs and offers an extensive in-house training and professional development program entitled Renova University.
As a company, Renova has always been committed to sustainability as a whole, not just renewable energy. That recently took a step forward with Renova’s investment in Mycrogrid Materials Recycling (MMR) - a recycling company located in the Eastern Riverside county district of the Coachella Valley dedicated to completing the promise of solar as clean energy but recycling solar system components in order to divert them from landfills. As an investor and advisor to MMR, Renova will not only send their end-of-life solar panels and batteries to the facility but will facilitate the delivery of materials from SunPower’s network of more than 450 dealers nationwide, as well as the installations done by SunPower itself. |

| Glass Recycling | The glass industry has tremendous appetite to increase the recycled content of products such as bottles and fiberglass to meet decarbonization goals. However, the supply for recycled glass is not currently meeting the demand. Recycling glass from solar panels into other glass products has been shown to be feasible and offers a way to re-introduce the material into a circular economy. The challenge is demonstrating that all semiconductor materials and hardware have been sufficiently removed so that solar panel glass will not create any defects in the new product.
CelSian is a glass technology consultancy with specialised tools to melt glass, analyze defects, and measure glass chemistry. As a partner, we bring glass formulation know-how, experimental tools, and connections to major glass manufacturers to commercialize a new material for the glass industry. We work with nearly all of the major glass manufacturers and are familiar with evaluating new raw materials and streams of recycled glass. |
