Rare InnovationTimothy RainesManaging Principal Small Business Cross-Cutting Commercializing IP sales and licensingRare Innovation has supported DOE, DOD, NASA, NSF, NIH and other SBIR awardees through successful commercialization, including multiple phase III wins and significant commercial revenues for clients. Rare Innovation is also a DOE Energywerx two-time provider for five startups. For the CLIMR program, we are partnering with Becker Transactions, led by Dean Becker and Olivia Becker, both former Ocean Tomo executives, with Dean being a founder. Our team will sell or license IP and has $11 billion in IP transaction experience. We would evaluate the IP portfolios and determine two courses of action: 1) what IP should be sold or licensed and 2) what IP should be considered for startup opportunities. For the first, Becker Transactions will market the IP to potential buyers or licensees who will incorporate the IP into their innovation portfolios. This will generate funding for the partner TTOs. For IP that is primed for spin-out, Rare Innovation will evaluate the TRL and search for potential existing startups or qualified founders to create startups that will carry this IP forward.

Indiana Center for Emerging TechnologiesLogan JenkinsExecutive Director Non-Profit Office of Technology Transitions (OTT) Technology Transfer for Youth/Young Adults and EntrepreneursOur IMPACTT program investigates the roles of emerging technologies. All participants are encouraged to explore building a tech-enabled impact venture. Program participants will identify, research, and critically analyze technology inventions and patents available for license through universities and U.S. federal agencies. Technology transfer is investigated, including ways it can help impact ventures scale, enhance economic growth, and advance scientific research. The program encourages participants from all backgrounds and disciplines of study. They explore and familiarize themselves with career pathways, venture-building services, and additional resources for further study.

Students will engage in a hands-on, applied learning experience where they investigate the potential roles of technology in their communities, their region, and across the nation.

Students will also explore common circular economy concepts - including remanufacturing, reuse, and recycling techniques used to transform material byproducts into higher-value resources.

The program and its curriculum are under final development. The course has been ran twice through the University of Evansville for college credit. It will be run in over 100 Indiana High Schools in 2025.

This program has been funded through two phases of US DOE American-Made Community Energy Innovation Prize (2024). Additionally, the program served as the cornerstone for two phases of the US SBA's Growth Accelerator Fund Competition (2024).

CarbonBridge Inc.Manu PillaiCEO / Chief Engineer Small Business Bioenergy Bioenergy, biocatalysisWe have developed a direct-gas bioreactor that is optimized for gas fermentation, and avoids the use of bubbles, etc., and are working to scale that up with funding from ARPA-e. (GREENWELLS). We currently use that to convert methane to methanol, using methanotrophs. It is quite efficient and would work well with other gas-fermentation opportunities.

As we look ahead, we are interested in partnering with labs that can offer us biomass to fuels technologies, including related technologies around metrology, biocatalysis, feedstock - in particular lignin and cellulosic to gas. We are also open to working with labs on exploring market opportunities around the fusion of biotech and green molecules.

Other areas of interest include the use of HPC to explore our additional bacteria and fungi, reaction kinetics and reactor design; in this case technology could include models, methods of library scanning, methods of creating CFD models to run on AWS or Azure HPC infrastructure and more.

We welcome the opportunity to have a conversation.

Framatome IncJeffrey L. ReedR&D Partnership Manager Large Business Nuclear Nuclear Fuel Design, testing, manufacturing, codes and methods developmentFramatome has decades of experience in fuel design, qualification and manufacturing, recently celebrating the 50th anniversary at our Richland, WA, nuclear fuel manufacturing facility. Framatome’s Richland facility currently fabricates fuel that can support the entire US LWR fleet. This broad experience base demonstrates the diversity and breadth of manufacturing experience in conjunction with continual innovation.

Framatome’s plant engineering group has designed and built most of the fuel manufacturing processes from chemical conversion of UF6 to UO2 (ADU and dry conversion), to powder processing, ceramic pelletizing, fuel rod fabrication, and fuel assembly fabrication. These manufacturing project successes demonstrate Framatome’s continued investment in its Richland operation and is acknowledgement of its technology leadership in nuclear fuel fabrication. Framatome’s technology is also licensed to several other fuel fabricators around the world.

Framatome involves the voice of the customer in setting focused research and product development goals. This successful product development and commercialization strategy has recently been demonstrated with the delivery of two new fuel designs to the market with the participation of multiple utility partners cooperating in a technical advisory group (TAG). Firstly, the advanced GAIA 17x17 PWR fuel assembly has now been delivered in batch reload quantities with more deliveries on the way. Secondly, Framatome is delivering the most advanced BWR fuel assembly in the world, the ATRIUM 11, containing Chromia-enhanced fuel pellets. Chromia-enhanced fuel was developed in collaboration with the DOE Accident Tolerant Fuel (ATF) program and is the first commercial success story of the DOE-ATF program.

Framatome is the leader in the DOE’s Accident Tolerant Fuel Program, demonstrating advanced research and development capabilities and continuing investment in innovation. Framatome is leading the way with new fuel-cladding material types like silicon carbide and advanced physical-vapor-deposition (PVD) coating technologies for our high-performance M5Framatome metallic fuel cladding. Additionally, Framatome is the industry leader in chromia- and gadolinia-doped fuel. The continued successful execution and completion of this complex R&D project demonstrates the necessary experience required to successfully bring innovation from concept to market.
